Midtown is the strip of land across the entire northern border of our neighbourhood. It runs from 16-Mile Creek to Chartwell Road, and from Cornwall Road on the south to the QEW as its northern border It has been identified as the primary area for intensification in Oakville through to 2051 and it is right in our backyard! It will be dense, accommodating what are expected to be the tallest buildings in Oakville. As our neighbourhood digests the implications of this we can expect controversy. Big picture, the choice is between accommodating growth in the GTA through (a) intensification while protecting existing stable residential neigbourhoods or (b) urban expansion into farmland. Click here for an Oakville News opinion piece outlining the issue and click here for a Wikipedia article on Urban Growth Boundaries. Provincial Policy and our Regional and Town councils favour intensification. The Official Plan for the area will be amended to bring it into line with recent Policy revisions. An excellent overview of the amendments contemplated was presented to Council on March 22 . Click here for a Youtube video of the presentation.
